How to unlock a T-Mobile phone
Use the free check below to enter an IMEI, confirm the original country and network, and see a possible device match. The result does not query T-Mobile or confirm whether the phone is locked or eligible to unlock.
Step by step
- 01
Enter your 15-digit IMEI
In the free Device Check form, enter the phone’s IMEI. You can find it by dialing *#06# or in Settings → About.
- 02
Confirm the original country and network
This guide preselects the country and network. Make sure they match where the phone was originally locked; change either selection if needed.
- 03
Press “Check my device”
The result appears below the form. It checks the number format and may show a possible manufacturer or model from the public catalog. It does not check carrier lock status or unlock eligibility.

T-Mobile phone unlock requirements
Requirements depend on whether the line is postpaid or prepaid. Use this checklist as a summary, then confirm the device-specific result with T-Mobile; this site cannot access carrier account records or submit the carrier’s request.
Postpaid checklist
- Device sold by T-Mobile, not reported lost, stolen, or blocked; associated account in good standing
- At least 40 days active on the requesting line
- T-Mobile financing or lease paid in full; cancelled account balance is zero
Prepaid checklist
- At least 365 days since activation; earlier eligibility may apply after more than $100 in refills per active line and more than 14 days since purchase
- No more than two unlocks completed per line in the previous 12 months
Published timing
T-Mobile says eligible, remotely unlockable devices are automatically unlocked within two business days; devices that cannot be remotely unlocked receive next steps within that period.
