How to unlock an AT&T phone
Use the free check below to enter an IMEI, confirm the original country and network, and see a possible device match. The result does not query AT&T or confirm whether the phone is locked or eligible to unlock.
Step by step
- 01
Enter your 15-digit IMEI
In the free Device Check form, enter the phone’s IMEI. You can find it by dialing *#06# or in Settings → About.
- 02
Confirm the original country and network
This guide preselects the country and network. Make sure they match where the phone was originally locked; change either selection if needed.
- 03
Press “Check my device”
The result appears below the form. It checks the number format and may show a possible manufacturer or model from the public catalog. It does not check carrier lock status or unlock eligibility.

ATT phone unlock requirements
Requirements depend on whether the line is postpaid or prepaid. Use this checklist as a summary, then confirm the device-specific result with ATT; this site cannot access carrier account records or submit the carrier’s request.
Postpaid checklist
- Device purchased more than 60 days ago and no longer active on another AT&T account
- Device paid in full; any installment balance is zero
- Not reported lost, stolen, or involved in fraud
- Current customer account has no past-due bill
Prepaid checklist
- AT&T Prepaid devices require 12 months of service
- Prepaid iPhone requests are submitted through AT&T; Android devices use the AT&T Device Unlock app
Published timing
AT&T’s public eligibility page does not state a general processing-time guarantee; check request status with AT&T.
